Hi people, today I’m going to write a CyberGhost VPN Review. CyberGhost is one of the biggest and most trusted VPN providers. First of all, everything about Cyberghost is innovative and shiny! Starting from their website and registration process, and going through their account pages and to the VPN client itself. Absolutely amazing. Thus, giving it a strong starting point.
Right of the bat, i want you to take a look at some of its core features, i’m going to quote it straight from their website:
- Automatic Kill Switch
- Highest speeds
- Unlimited bandwidth and traffic
- Access to over 3600 servers worldwide
- DNS and IP Leak Protection
- Strict No Logs Policy
- 256-bit AES Encryption
- OpenVPN, L2TP-IPsec and PPTP protocols
- Simultaneous connections on up to 7 devices (NordVPN Offers 5)
- Apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Routers
- Friendly support: chat or email
- 45-day money back guarantee
- CAN BE USED FOR ANDROID TV
As we go along i will dive deeper into some of the features. Without further delay, lets continue.
After downloading the client, it will automatically be integrated onto your device. The main login screen will pop up.In order to unlock its use and gain access to to the features you need to input your account details. After the login process the main dashboard will appear.
Option 1 – I will expend the full settings tab.
Option 2 – a quick connect feature
I’m going to click the yellow tab to open up the full menu, as shows below:
As you can see, we have quite a few settings fields and tabs. If I could say one bad thing about GhostVPN right now, is that it might be overwhelming for the inexperienced user when he takes a look at the Smart Rules and Settings tabs. However, as I said the team behind this amazing VPN client does excellent work. CyberGhost UI is filled with prompt options when there is a request that needs your attention. Furthermore, it has a lot of helpers about the options it offers. Hence, making it clear for you to pick the option that suits you best.
In addition to that, these rules are for more advanced users anyway. Despite that, The team behind this client made them accessible to inexperienced users with the help of good information which is offered in-app. Let’s go over some tabs.
- P2P – Torrenting
- Connection Features
- Smart Rules
Pretty straight forward. Use this tab to manually select a VPN location. As you can see the table displayed offers some insights about the server you’re connecting to. (for instance: the distance from your actual location, the server load and finally, the option to bookmark it for future easier use)
I would like to point out that due to some legal stuff I can actually post my tests here. However, as this article progresses and we will get to the live testing, I strongly suggest you do look into the torrenting part of CyberGhost by yourself. A small hint, it’s pretty nice!
At the time of writing this article, you can actually unblock Netflix with Cyberghsot. For my example, I’m going to connect to the US Netflix. Which in my opinion is the best one.
Make sure you connect to a US server, than, only than open a browser an access your Netflix account.
Yes, it’s awesome, I know. However, I would like to point out that streaming Netflix with CyberGost has been a bit slower for me compared to when I used NordVPN or SurfShark. Despite that, the difference in speed and buffering isn’t big.
You can look at this as a sort of anti-malware service plus an ad blocker on steroids. This tool allows for extra layers of protection as shown below:
This section is relatively simple to understand, it is what it says. However, keep in mind, if you turn on all of these it will result in things being a bit slower. Despite that fact, if you must have some of these features, it well worth it.
Yet even more extra tweaks from this VPN client. The smart rules tab allows for even more control. Things such as WIFI Protection, Exclusion lists, app lists, exceptions and more.
In my opinion, you should dive straight in and just read the little in-app helpers, they will be clear on those settings. Furthermore, after you will take the first look, it will be a lot simpler.
My Account & Settings Tabs
More administrative & informative tab. Except for a few options under the settings tab. Most likely, you won’t have to change those, however as mentioned above with the smart rules, the same applies here. Dive in and take a look. I could say that this section features the license in addition to the subscription details. Furthermore you have the language option, followed by some DNS options and finally, you have some misc option as well.
Finally, i will mention 3 important settings under Settings->Connection:
- VPN Protocol – I would like to mention that CyberGhost comes with the latest encryption protocols (For instance: OpenVPN, L2TP, IKEV2 ). The default is set on auto-negotiate for best results based upon your network.
- DNS Leak Protection – Yet another very important feature, this allows you to use the nameservers of CyberGhost. Thus, increasing Privacy levels and hiding your true DNS servers. If they are revealed, one can find out your ISP. Finally, I would like to point out that this is ON by default.
- Random Port Connectivity – On by default, scans ports that he can use to connect. works with OpenVPN protocol only.
CyberGhost VPN Review: My Personal Experience Using
Right of the bat, all in all, it was pretty positive. However, a few things you should know before:
- My home connection is Up too 100Mb download and 3Mb upload
- I’m connected via WIFI, on my home network without VPN’S my WIFI speeds usually stand on about 50Mb.
- I’m a lot closer to Europe than I am to the USA.
Let’s get right to the juicy stuff. Below are screenshots of speed tests performed from a US server and a server located in Germany:
Let’s talk about the result. You can clearly see that the results I get from Europe are way better. However, you should know that this is due to the simple fact I’m physically closer to Europe. All in all, the connection to Europe was stabler and faster.
On the other hand, the connection to the US with CyberGhsot gave me less than I was expecting compared to other competitors(for instance: NordVPN). Despite that, I was still able to use my connection without interference. However, download speeds were naturally slower.
What About Streaming?
Both connections allowed me to stream HD. However, the US connection was slower. In fact, if I wanted to skip ahead in an HD movie, I did have to wait about 5 – 4 seconds. Which is not terrible.
CyberGhost has dedicated servers for P2P. However, due to legal stuff, I can’t post any results here. I do recommend the same thing I recommended with each VPN provider. Test it out for yourselves. However, I do want to point out the fact that P2P with VPN’s works. Furthermore, CyberGhost is pretty decent with P2P. In order to see the results, you will have to test it out for yourselves, as I mentioned earlier.
Final Words About My CyberGhost VPN Review
Thank you for reading My CyberGhost VPN Review, I tried to cover all the angles I would find relevant. However, if there is something I missed, or you would like me to add something. Feel free to leave your opinion at the comment section below.
Overall, I really liked using CyberGhost VPN, its pretty slick, fast and reliable. However, there are some downsides. For instance: For me, the connection to the USA was slower with CyberGhost than it was with other VPN providers. However, it can get pretty “individual” and at the end of the day, if you’re physically far from the desired location it will affect speeds.
